The Hot 8 Brass Band were formed in New Orleans in 1995 by Bennie Pete, Jerome Jones and Harry Cook, through the merger of two earlier groups, the Looney Tunes Brass Band and the High Steppers Brass Band. They blend traditional New Orleans brass with jazz, hip hop, funk and R&B, and play jazz funerals, second line parades and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival alongside international touring across Japan, Italy, France, Spain, Finland and England. They reached a far wider audience after appearing in Spike Lee's 2006 documentary When the Levees Broke, about the impact of Hurricane Katrina. They have been signed to the UK label Tru Thoughts since June 2007, releasing Rock with The Hot 8 in 2007, The Life and Times of the Hot 8 Brass Band in 2012 and Tombstone in 2013.
