Liang Lawrence is a singer-songwriter based in east London who started out in Devon. Half-English and half-Chinese, she lived in eight countries growing up because of her father's work, including spells in the Midlands and London as well as Japan, New Zealand, Malaysia, Kuwait and San Francisco. She was given piano and violin lessons young but preferred to teach herself ukulele, songwriting and guitar, and studied biology at the University of Exeter. She released her first single Santa Cruz in 2020 and built an online following sharing it and other demos on TikTok, passing 100,000 followers by 2022. Her debut EP letters to myself, in 2023, gained over a million streams within weeks, and What's Dead and Gone followed in 2024 with the singles Eulogy, Use Me, If Only and Backseat. She was nominated for Rising Star at the 2025 Ivor Novello Awards. Her sound mixes indie pop, alt-pop, folk and soft rock.
